Microtek provides a range of immunodiagnostic tests that are commonly used for the detection of fish pathogens.
IFAT Screening for Renibacterium salmoninarum
The Indirect Fluorescent Antibody Technique (IFAT) is used for the microscopic detection of R. salmoninarum, the causative agent of Bacterial Kidney Disease (BKD). This is a commonly used test for screening salmonid broodstock to reduce vertical transmission of this bacterial pathogen from adult to juveniles through the egg. It is also used for screening juveniles prior to saltwater entry.
ELISA Screening for Renibacterium salmoninarum
The Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) is used for the detection of R. salmoninarum, the causative agent of Bacterial Kidney Disease (BKD). This is also a commonly used test for screening salmonid broodstock and juveniles. This test detects the level of the major antigens produced by R. salmoninarum.
